Fittleworth and its environs, although now rather more on the beaten track than in Elgar's day, are still as enticing as ever. If you're able to make a weekend of it, here are some useful links to accommodation and places of interest in the area.
Your first stop for finding out about Fittleworth is the Parish Council website, which has a wealth of information about the village, as well as places to stay and eat locally, such as Fittleworth Stores.

Composer trail
Elgar wasn't the only composer who found inspiration in Sussex. Arnold Bax (who visited Elgar in Worcestershire, and wrote about the encounter in his book, Farewell my youth) ended his days as a long-term guest at The White Horse in nearby Storrington: the pub (on the main road through the village) bears a plaque to his memory. John Ireland retired to a converted windmill, Rock Mill, in Washington, with views across to Chanctonbury Ring. Sadly, the mill, situated by a former quarry, is not open to the public and currently faces an uncertain future.
